What is a short haul move? This is a move that is less than 450 miles. Make sure to inquire with your moving company as you may have to pay long distance charges even for short haul moves.
What is a local move? This usually refers to moves that are less than 100 miles and within the same state.
What is an intrastate move? This refers to a move of more than 100 miles within the same state.
Will my movers clean my home once my move is complete? Most professional movers will clean up any mess they have made during the actual move. However, they don’t perform general house cleaning so you must hire a professional cleaning service or perform this task yourself.
Can movers transport my hot tub or spa? Yes, but moving companies will charge extra because these items require a special dolly and flatbed truck.
What are some examples of “extraordinary value” items? Although the list will differ for each person, your crystal, furs, jewelry, china, silverware, art or coin collections, crystal, antiques, precious stones and Oriental rugs will often fall under this category.
How should I move any hazardous items? We recommend that you dispose of any hazardous items such as paint, propane tanks and aerosols. Professional movers can’t move combustible or hazardous items because of the potential for fires or explosions.
Can I pack and move some smaller items before the movers arrive? Yes, you should spend your time packing boxes and have friends and family members spend their time carrying the boxes to the moving truck.
What are wardrobes? These are special boxes that are designed to hold your clothes. Some come equipped with a hanging rod and can fit clothing from up to 3 linear feet of closet space.
If I’m moving internationally, how will I know which items I can’t bring with me? Your moving company should provide you with a list of custom regulations for your destination country. This document will indicate which items are prohibited or restricted by the particular country.
What should I do if one of my items is damaged during the move? Professional movers and packers do their best to ensure all your belongings arrive safely to your destination. However, damage sometimes occurs. In this case, please email or call your moving company as soon as possible with the details.
What is hoisting? Certain large awkward items such as wall units or pianos may have to be hoisted out of a window instead of being carried down a flight of stairs. Check with your moving company about the availability and cost of this service.
What is long carry? You may be charged an additional fee if the moving van can’t come within a certain distance from the entrance of your destination. This is generally 75 feet, but you need to check with your particular moving company.
